Dental Bonding Houston, TX

Your teeth perform many important jobs. One job you might not think about very much is aesthetics. Your teeth provide you with a beautiful smile. When they have been affected by imperfections, even just minor imperfections, your beautiful smile can be greatly affected. At Edge Dental, we can restore the beauty of your smile with bonding.

What is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is a dental procedure used to correct a variety of different dental imperfections. The material used for bonding is composite resin, which is made up of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. The color of the material perfectly blends in with the enamel of your teeth. The composite resin is quite versatile. It can be easily molded and shaped to fit some different needs. It can be used to correct minor imperfections such as:

•  Small chips or cracks that do not extend into the inner layer of your teeth.
•  Gaps between your teeth.
•  Misshapen teeth.
•  Teeth that are smaller than the ones around it.
•  Discoloration.

A Quick, Easy Procedure to Restore Your Teeth

Bonding is a quick, easy procedure. It can be completed in a single visit, usually in less than an hour, and is completely pain-free. No anesthetic is required. We begin by cleaning and drying the affected tooth (or teeth). Next, we apply a lightly acidic gel to the tooth, which helps to create a rough surface. This texture is essential for helping the bonding material to better adhere to your tooth. The gel is washed off, and your tooth is dried again. We then place the composite resin on the tooth and begin shaping it as we need. Once the desired shape is reached, the material is dried with a special light. Finally, we polish it to be beautiful finish, and your smile is restored.

How to Care for Bonding

Bonding can be and should be, cared for just like the rest of your natural teeth. Brush at least twice a day and floss daily. You should also maintain regular dental visits. During your 6-month dental exams, we will look over your bonding, along with the rest of your teeth, and inspect it for damage.

Bonding is not a very strong material, so some care will need to be taken. Avoid biting down on anything exceptionally hard, such as ice and popcorn kernels. Avoid habits, such as biting your fingernails, or chewing on pens. Moreover, do not use your teeth to tear packaging or remove tags. By taking care of your bonding, you will help to ensure its longevity.

Benefits of Bonding

Bonding has numerous benefits:

•  The color of the composite resin material blends in perfectly with your natural enamel. It will be impossible for others to tell that it is there.
•  Bonding is a completely painless procedure. You will not even need a local anesthetic.
•  The procedure for bonding is quick, taking less than an hour. This means a minimal interruption in your day.
•  Bonding is one of the most affordable options for restoring the beauty of your smile.
•  Bonding is also the least invasive option. It does not require the removal of your enamel like veneers and crowns do.

If your teeth have been affected by minor imperfections, bonding may be able to help. Call Edge Dental today to find out if it is right for you.
