What is Dental Bonding?
Bonding is a dental procedure used to correct a variety of different dental imperfections. The material used for bonding is composite resin, which is made up of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. The color of the material perfectly blends in with the enamel of your teeth. The composite resin is quite versatile. It can be easily molded and shaped to fit some different needs. It can be used to correct minor imperfections such as:
A Quick, Easy Procedure to Restore Your Teeth
Bonding is a quick, easy procedure. It can be completed in a single visit, usually in less than an hour, and is completely pain-free. No anesthetic is required. We begin by cleaning and drying the affected tooth (or teeth). Next, we apply a lightly acidic gel to the tooth, which helps to create a rough surface. This texture is essential for helping the bonding material to better adhere to your tooth. The gel is washed off, and your tooth is dried again. We then place the composite resin on the tooth and begin shaping it as we need. Once the desired shape is reached, the material is dried with a special light. Finally, we polish it to be beautiful finish, and your smile is restored.
How to Care for Bonding
Bonding can be and should be, cared for just like the rest of your natural teeth. Brush at least twice a day and floss daily. You should also maintain regular dental visits. During your 6-month dental exams, we will look over your bonding, along with the rest of your teeth, and inspect it for damage.
Bonding is not a very strong material, so some care will need to be taken. Avoid biting down on anything exceptionally hard, such as ice and popcorn kernels. Avoid habits, such as biting your fingernails, or chewing on pens. Moreover, do not use your teeth to tear packaging or remove tags. By taking care of your bonding, you will help to ensure its longevity.
