We have all heard that we need to make sure to floss at least once per day. However, have you ever stopped to wonder why? Sometimes flossing seems like a lot of effort, so is it worth the return on that effort?
Thankfully for those of us who have put forth that effort, it is definitely worth it. Keeping up with your oral health through flossing is a great way to boost your overall health, especially your oral health.
The Benefits of Flossing
The first, and main benefit of flossing is that you get a lot of debris out of your mouth. One of the easiest places for tartar to build up in the mouth is right in between your teeth.
Brushing gets slightly into the gaps, but only a minimal amount. If you want to really get into those spaces and get the tartar out, then you need to use either traditional floss, or a water flosser.
Flossing also provides the benefit of increasing your gum health. It stimulates the gums and removes debris right along the gum line. However, it also pushes the gums around a bit, which helps increase blood flow to that area of your mouth. The healthier your gums are, the healthier your mouth is going to be able to remain.
To find out more benefits of going through and flossing each day, talk with your dentist. Ask them to explain it while they are doing your next exam. It gives you something to listen to and learn from while they are poking around inside your mouth, checking to make sure your oral health is as good as it can be.
